Inclusive Sailing

For the seventh consecutive year, we have enabled children without adequate parental care from six children’s homes in Croatia and one foster family from Lithuania to discover the beauties of Croatia. Through sailing, we provided them with cultural and educational content as well as the joy of togetherness.

Thirty-eight children participated in this year’s “Power of Waves” project. They came from Community Service Centers in Osijek, Karlovac (“Vladimir Nazor”), Lipik, Zagreb (“Ivan Goran Kovačić” and “Antun Gustav Matoš”), and Split, while children from a foster family in Lithuania gave the project an international character.

All the children enjoyed sailing made possible by numerous donors and sponsors; special recognition goes to the charter companies that provided nine sailing boats free of charge and ten volunteer skippers who donated their time and expertise.

Thanks to this unity, we witnessed a truly visible power of waves of kindness in action.
In addition to enjoying the sea and swimming, the children gained new experiences on the sailboats.

With the help of the skippers, they learned the basics of maritime navigation, discovered the secrets of Šibenik during a professionally guided tour, visited the Museum of Betina Wooden Shipbuilding on Murter to watch a play, and had the opportunity to enjoy Kornati National Park while learning about the traditional way of life involving agriculture, livestock, and fishing.

Furthermore, the children listened to a brief testimony on the importance of living in harmony with nature and the dangers of addiction. Truly, experiences to remember.

The purpose of the “Power of Waves” project is to empower and connect children without adequate parental care, as well as to connect their educators through the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of competencies in a different, more relaxed environment.

Following this educational and entertaining sailing gathering, the participants of this empowering regatta—children without adequate parental care—are overjoyed, motivated, and grateful for this unique opportunity.

They made the most of it, they are proud and happy, and the friendships and memories will remain with them forever.

We leave the waves to strike strongly, as that is an integral part of life; projects like this encourage children and young people to fight and take an active approach to life, motivating them to sail forward through the waves.
